Diocesan Synod

The Diocesan Synod is elected from the membership of PCCs within Durham Diocese, and is the main governing body of the diocese. Business includes approving budgets and accounts, setting diocesan strategy, and other major decisions. Presentations are often received on aspects of church and community life. Recent presentations have included Christian Aid, Prison Chaplaincy, Church Schools, and engagement with credit unions.

Stockton Deanery has a number of representatives on Diocesan Synod, but there are currently clergy vacancies. Two of our members – David Brooke and John Taylor - also serve on Bishop's Council (which deals with more detailed work, and acts as the standing committee of Diocesan Synod) – and David serves on the Bishops Council Enabling Group (a small subgroup which plans the business of Diocesan Synod and Bishops Council).
